Definition: Pandan (Pandanus screwpine) is a type of plant that grows in tropical areas of Asia. Pandanus leaves have a unique flavor, sweet commmonly used in Southeast Asia to improve both desserts and savory dishes. The leaves are long and bright green, and when crushed or ground and has a sweet taste and aroma of many Thai desserts and drinks.
Where to buy Pandan: pandanus be purchased at your local Asian food, and can be purchased fresh or, more likely, frozen (which were shown in the photo frozen bought). Pandan also comes in a ready to use paste - can be found in most grocery stores in Asia (see photo). One bottle lasts a long time, the dough is very concentrated.
With Pandan leaves: To create a paste of pandanus leaves can be used for a variety of recipes that leaves into 1 cm pieces and cut into a pot on the stove with 1/2 cup water (add as many stones as will fit). Cook until the leaves are soft (of the water has evaporated), then treated with water and allowed to stand in a blender to create a paste.
Another use of pandan leaves: Place a few leaves on top of each other and tie in a knot to hold them together. Add in a rice cooker, add a delicate taste, your pandan rice.
Pandan has a special flavor that goes well with coconut milk mixture - not like that!
